Petals and prosts – Blossom Festival in Werder, Germany

In our last post, we told you about our visit to a cherry blossom festival in Korea. Not long after we came back to Germany, we were intrigued to read about a blossom festival in the nearby town of Werder. Read on to learn how the two festivals compare!

Werder is lovely town on the Havel river, with an old town on an island in the river and many orchards around the city.

The river provides for many fun activities during festival and throughout the summer. The blossom festival has two parts …

The young ones enjoy the action and fair-like atmosphere on the river shore.

In the meanwhile, the older or more mature relax in the orchards below the castle.

Compared to the festival in Jinhae, Korea, it is far less crowded.

And while the visitors do enjoy the blossoms, the focus seems to be another one: locally produced fruit wine of all sorts and flavours.

Fruit wine is a fully-fledged alcoholic drink despite its sweet taste and harmless look.

Despite the obvious difference to the Korean blossom festival (less crowded, less of a party atmosphere and less selfies being taken but endless amounts of fruit wine consumed), we enjoyed our little trip to Werder and will be sure to come back next year!
