Fresh, full-flavored, fruity yet tangy; the Helles at Brauhaus Vetter in Heidelberg is one of my favorite beers.
All their artisan beer is made on-site and they usually offer three to four varieties: an unfiltered Pilsner (Helles), a dark wheat beer (Dunkles Weizenbier), a stout (Vetters 33) and a seasonal special. All beers can be ordered in three different sizes from 0,3l to a full liter and they also sell a five liter barrel to share at the table. Don’t think you have to take the 1l glasses just because you are in Germany! No one likes stale beer when they are not at the Oktoberfest or the Hofbräuhaus ..
If you cannot find a space at Brauhaus Vetter (but do not hesitate to ask people to share a table, that is normal), you can also buy a 1l bottle of beer to take away and enjoy by the river or to take home as a souvenir. They are pretty heavy though and there is a 3 Euro deposit on the bottle. But seriously, who could keep a beer as delicious as this one untouched long enough to take it outside town?
Before you leave, consider to head to the comments section and tell us about your favorite beer or continue to read about the best time to visit Heidelberg. And as always, we would love you to ..
